Secure Data Disposal

If you're worried about your confidential data when disposing of old company PCs, then you should know that a plain old format would not suffice. Formatting merely re-writes the file allocation tables of the HDD. The actual files that were stored can very easily be retrieved. What you need to do is to scramble up your hard-disk, i.e. write meaningless data all over your HDD. Lenovo has recently released a free program called Secure Data Disposal that does just that. This program will make sure any and all data on your disk is destroyed for good.
